ARIA

I awoke with a start. My throat was tight and tongue dry. Rudra was at my side in a moment, "Aria. Are you alright?"

"Yes. Sorry," I said and pressed my fingers to my temples. I tried to massage the budding headache away. "Bad dream?" he asked.

I nodded. "You could say that."

Rudra looked concerned, his blue eyes unwavering as he watched me, "Care to talk about it? Sometimes it can help to talk about things," he said.

I smiled and was reminded against just how much like Rajah he really was even if neither of them could see it. They were certainly related in that regard. They were both overly concerned for my well being and worried about my actions. "It was Kali."

Rudra's brows went right up his forehead. Without thinking, I lifted a hand and smoothed his furrowed brow, saying, "It wasn't actually Kali, I was just dreaming about what had happened when we met."

He nodded and sat down on the edge of the bed beside me.

We'd managed to make it down the mountain well past sundown. If it wasn't for Rudra's familiarity with the Nepali language, and the use of a fair amount of charm on both our parts, we would probably have been refused a room. The hotel we stayed in was rustic but warm and well kept. If there were other patrons, we hadn't met any yet. It seemed to be empty, but their reluctance to take us in told volumes as to the state of things.

I hoped that Rajah and the others would find their way to the city soon; otherwise, I was afraid we might need to go back out and look for them.
